NEW STOP ON LUCKY BLOG TOUR
ANOTHER TALENTED AUTHOR HOSTING IT
Beem Weeks is one of the biggest supporters of Indie Authors I've met and for him to host today's stop on Lucky Blog Tour is a HUGE honor.
Not to mention his blog will blow your mind. You MUST read his inspiring posts. They are beautiful tales written with heart and soul.
Why did I become an Indie Author?
I’ve got asked this question a lot and I found out there’s no easy answer. On one hand, there were many stories inside my head fighting to get out and onto the paper (or an eReader screen), and this was clearly a reason. But on the other hand, there was also a sense of challenge. I had never written anything before August of 2013 when I decided to try my hand at it. I didn’t know if I’d be any good at it. Granted, I had been an avid reader ever since I learned how to read but that didn’t mean I could write.
I still remember fondly the first time I sat down in front of my computer to write my novel. I also remember I would create whole scenes and clever dialogs in my head while driving to my regular job. I would sit through boring meetings while my characters played out scenes in front of my eyes. Then, I would get home and spend hours translating all those awesome ideas into words and sentences. I was living my dream. After a week of hard work, I had written around twenty pages.
WHAT?! Only twenty pages?
Yep! That was when I understood writing was a much harder job then I had imagined. People don’t know that. Writers do!
After that frustrated weekend, I decided to start small. Literally. I put the novel idea aside and started writing short-stories. I learned to create covers and I uploaded them to eBook stores. Then, I waited for the readers to come. And they did! I was surprised at the reviews I started getting. I asked my best friend to post the first one, like so many authors I’ve met have told me they did too, but the other reviews I’ve received so far have come from people I don’t know. Readers who have enjoyed my stories (most of them, anyway) and wrote the most amazing things about them. I was touched and convinced I was doing something right. So I kept writing and learning and hope to be able to do so for a long time.

LATEST REVIEWS ON AMAZON
5.0 out of 5 stars AWESOME BOOK!!, January 7, 2015

This review is from: Luck of the Irish: Complete Edition (Kindle Edition)
WOW!!! I read the whole book in 24 hours. It was so good I had the hardest time putting it down. The story takes place in Ireland & has such great detail it's like being there. Declan & Keira have such a great story: it includes meeting your soul mate, travel, friends, family, love, kidnapping, murder, romance & more love. I would recommend Luck of the Irish to anyone who loves a good romantic love store with twists & turns but a happy ending. I was provided with a free copy of this book so I could give an honest review.

4.0 out of 5 stars Luck of the Irish by: Liz Gavin A 5* Must Read!!!!, January 4, 2015
This review is from: Luck of the Irish: Complete Edition (Kindle Edition)
WELL!!!! When I first started reading this book I had a hard time staying with it. BUT the further I read the more captivated I became. With strong characters, Kiera and Declan, their story started slow but finally got up and running. The more I read ( thank goodness I didn't stop) the more I wanted to read. Set in Ireland with believable descriptions of buildings, landscape and people that just added to the storyline. I read other reviews and some I found most agreeable.
This book has everything in it, sweet romance - an alpha male - suspense - murder - erotica , did I mention everything!!
Kiera sets out to live a dream after listening to her grandfather's tales of the homeland. Working and saving she was also going to get to see her favorite group UT performing in their hometown. Sadly the concert was cancelled but that led her to Declan. I won't post spoilers but if you enjoy reading any genre you'll love this book. Liz Gavin has a most sensational imagination and spares none on this story. This is the first of her work that I've read but I can't wait to devour more.
I was provided with a free copy of this book so I could give an honest review.

MARKETING INDIE BOOKS
(Part 1 of 5)
Welcome to my first series of posts. I chose to blog about my craft - writing indie books. Not because I'm an expert, on the contrary. I want to share my doubts and experiences with you hoping someone out there may shed light on them and leave their thoughts below. I'd appreciate that!
It is hard to write a novel. It’s
time-consuming to the point we neglect family and friends. It’s so distracting
we walk around with our heads in the clouds, hearing dialogs in our heads and
seeing things that are not there. All writers know what I’m talking about here.
It’s nothing new but it’s a fact.
It is also a fact that most writers
know next to nothing about promoting their books. They – no, strike that – WE
concentrate on the creative process. We enjoy creating to the extent we don’t
have time to bother with ‘small’ details such as covers, formatting, trailers,
blog tours, you name it! The word small is
in between quotation marks in the previous sentence because these things are
HUGE for authors, more so for indie writers.
After all, let’s face it – the
relationship between authors and readers sometimes raises delicate issues. I’ll
point out one of many possible scenarios. Isn’t it frustrating to see a
complaint from a reader about the fact your book looks ‘funny’ on their
e-reader after all your hard work, the sleepless nights you had to go through to
finish writing that one book? As a writer, one may consider it unfair that
another person ignored the content to complain about the looks of a book. As a
customer yourself, can you blame that person for defending their right to a
good quality product? I know I can’t. So, I would get frustrated but agree with
the reader.
Well, if writing is something we
love doing but demands so much time and effort from us, and a day is made up of
only twenty-four hours, when will we find the time to concentrate on those
issues I mentioned earlier and keep on
writing? How can we maintain the quality of our craft and promote it with
quality at the same time?
If we don’t have the funds to employ
a team of awesome, creative people to take care of covers, formatting,
promoting and so on, we must do it on our own. If we don’t have the time and/or
skills to take on this job, the next best thing is to find professionals who
can help us.
Although, I haven’t been publishing
for a long a time – around a year and a half – I have been very lucky so far. I’ve
found great resources online to help me tackle these problems. I want to share them
with you, in case you haven’t heard of them.
Tune in again next week for the next part of this series of posts. I’ll talk about creating book covers.

WHAT
IS #1 IN MY NEW YEAR’S RESOLUTION LIST?
I recently came across a thought-provoking article on the New Scientist website
entitled ‘Loneliness
is a modern epidemic in need of treatment’. I provide the link in case
anyone wants to check the complete text, which I recommend.
However, I will focus on a quote from Robin Williams the article highlights.
In 2009, he stated “I used to think the worst thing in life was to end up all
alone. It’s not. The worst thing in life is to end up with people who make you
feel all alone.”
Sad as they were, I don’t need to remind you of the circumstances involving
Robin’s premature passing. His words made me reflect on modern society in
general and more specifically on technology and social media apps.
Nowadays, we live isolated from direct human contact even when
surrounded by people. It is common to see people at restaurant tables engaged in
long virtual conversations while ignoring the people sitting next to them. And I
don’t mean people sitting at nearby tables; I refer to people sitting at the
same table.
The biggest danger in situations like the one I described above is that
we may not ‘feel’ the isolation until it is too late. Being surrounded by
friends and family naturally gives us comfort and safety. But what if it is an
illusion? What if these friends and family are too engrossed in texting or playing
the latest trendy game to notice when we need them. What if it is too late when
they look up and see we are not there?
Although I don’t play games on my cell phone or even my computer, I text
and post on social media often so I am not preaching here. On the contrary, it’s
a personal reflection I want to share with you because on the top of my New
Year’s Resolutions List I included in capital letters – IN 2015, I WILL CONNECT
MORE WITH PEOPLE - IN PERSON, NOT ONLY ON THE CYBERSPACE.
I invite you to try and do the same. Phone a friend and ask him or her about
their day. They live too far, you say? No worries. There are many free opinions
ONLINE to talk to people that doesn’t involve texting. Visit a relative you haven’t
seen in a while. I bet they will be happy to see you. Your family lives abroad
or in another state? No problems there either - video chat with them.
Technology can make us feel
closer instead of isolated. It is up to us to use it wisely. :
HAPPY NEW YEAR.

MY REVIEW
What a page-turner this book is! I read it
practically in one seating.
I am a big fan of all things paranormal and
have read my fair share of books and this one went straight to my top fifty
list, which includes classics such as Frankenstein and Dracula as well as
modern tales as Marion Zimmer Bradley and Anne Rice have woven.
On the other hand, I am too old to
empathize with YA characters in general but Katrina Summer stole my heart. Her
courage and open-mindedness when facing life-altering events and her new situation
are remarkable.
Not wanting to spoil the story for the
readers, I am just going to say that if you are looking for a well-written, steady-paced,
and believable paranormal read – look no further. The Summer Solstice is your
best bet.
Get ready to be sucked into this new world that
the talented K. K. Allen has so beautifully created. But be aware - you won’t be
willing to leave it any time soon.
